WelcomeThe sun’s daily natural energy provides over five thousand times the total amount of energy we consume worldwide. If we could harvest just 1% of that, we could stop burning fossil fuels and save money in the process.
Is an Open Loop Heat Pump right for me?An Open Loop Ground Source Heat Pump gives the cheapest form of heating http://www.nottenergy.com/energy_cost_comparison/ but has a comparatively high capital cost. Hence there are some easy questions worth asking that will quickly economically qualify the appropriateness of this technology.
- Does you home heating requirement exceed 20,000 kWh per year? This can be found on the bottom of the EPC (Energy Performance
Certificate) for the house. Given the additional costs of ground works
the economics work better for a larger house with a larger heat load.
- What method do you use to heat your home?If you use heating oil or electric storage heaters there will be
substantial benefit from a Soleco Heat Pump. In addition as the heat Pump
is driven by electricity if you already have a Solar PV array offering lower
cost electricity the savings can be dramatic.
- Is my home suitable for under floor or low temperature heating? A heat pump will distribute water at up to 50C, this is lower than a
standard boiler. So to get the most from the heat pump the house needs to
be reasonably well insulated (the government schemes make allowance for period
and listed properties) and normally using under floor heating or fan assisted
radiators. Current guidance under review
is encompassed in Heat Emitter Guide http://www.gshp.org.uk/pdf/mis_3005_heat_emitter_guide.pdf
