Dependent on the ground water temperature, Soleco heat pumps require approximately 1.5 to 2 litres per minute per KiloWatt heat output. So, for example, an 18KW model requires 27 to 36 litres of ground water per minute.

Ground water extracted to operate a domestic heat pump is exempt from Environment Agency licensing, (www.environment-agency.gov.uk) provided that no more than 20,000 litres are used in any 24 hour period. The 18KW model can therefore be used for around 9 to 12 hours per day without needing a licence.
